Cornish Christmas

Being honest, neither myself or Jacqui are big on Christmas....so family stuff all done, the day after boxing day we packed the van up and headed for Devon and Cornwall. The weather was quite mild, so the sup board went on the roof.

First stop...Croyde Bay...we havent been here since we did a £9.50 Sun holiday at Ruda holiday park about 18 years ago.

Jacqui did the statutory walk on the beach with Belle, while I had an hour or so in the water...full blue sky and very mild.

This was going to be a trip of overnight park ups, as not many campsites are open, and those that are are fully booked ready for new year. Anyway, campsites just spoil the exploring in my opinion (unless they are in a fantastic location). First night was spent at Appledore on the estuary front. Very nice little spot with a few other campers parked up. Fish and chips sat in the van with mushy peas and tartar sauce, followed by a few G&T's.

Next day we travelled south towards Polzeath.Calling into Bude on the way and stopping at Widemouth bay for a quick and rather dissapointing dip in the Atlantic. We didnt find a spot until after dark...but well worth it....check out the night shot (Very pleased). Normally I wouldnt fancy staying on a residential street, but I was assured it was OK here. That said, we didnt overstay our welcome and were gone before breakfast the next day. That's the joy of doing a bit of motorhome touring....you can set of early and find a picturesque spot for a late breakfast or brunch.

Next stop Rock and Padstow. Couldnt really park at Rock and decided to have a walk around Padstow to see if we could spot Rick Stein.....nope...oh well, maybe we will try his fish and chips on the next visit. Next stop Newquay...well Crantock more like.

We had recieved a few recommendations about the Bowgie Inn and the park up didn't disappoint. Fab views and £10 for 24 hour parking. Pub was no dogs inside, so opened our own bar in the van.

Next day, on to Gwithian...lazy morning and another SUP surf for an hour or so. Then on to Praa Sands where we had another recommendation for a nice beach park up. Lovely spot again. Zero phone signal but not really an issue.

Next day, back towards Porthleven for a little stroll around this fishing village...I genuinely think there are more Rick Stein restaurants than greggs in Cornwall.

Back for another surf at Gwithian and decided to do new years eve back at Crantock.

New years day ....homeward bound.

Lovely trip...need to do more Devon and Cornwall.
